On Wednesday 19 June 2013 the Accreditation Committee approved the transformation of the Institute of Art and Design into a faculty - the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Art and Design. This step will finalise the development of the Institute which will now become the ninth faculty of the University of West Bohemia.
The director of the Institute of Art and Design doc. Mištera has commented on this success: " I am very pleased to say that all the goals that I set at the turn of the millennium have been met on two hundred percent, despite the fact that those goals were not modest at all and back then I was the only one who believed they were feasible."
A number of formal steps will now lead to the actual transformation and election of a new dean later this year.
Fifty students of the Institute of Art and Design, their pedagogues and Petr Forman, the Artistic Chief of the Pilsen 2015 project, worked on yet another project together. Their unique undersea world opened for one night only on Saturday 8th June in the Atmos factory hall at Chrást.
Hundreds of spectators did not miss an extraordinary performance Modeli da Torino which took place on 15 May at the new building of the Institute of Art and Design. Under the direction of Petr Forman and in collaboration with the students of our school 17 young acrobats from the Italian circus school FLIC performed in a breathtaking show which linked the worlds of fine arts, dramatic arts and new circus. The young artists found inspiration in artworks created by our students and in techniques, materials and equipment used in fine arts. The performance included for example acrobatics on easels, interaction with shadows and projections, balancing on an iron structure/sculpture, non-traditional “fashion show” and many other original and surprising ideas. The building itself, its construction and overall atmosphere played an important role in the performance. That is one of the reasons why this unique performance cannot be transferred to another place. The friends and families of the young acrobats who came from many different countries could watch the results of their work live on the internet.
The performance was created as part of the project Pilsen – European Capital of Culture 2015. It marks the beginning of a new project of cooperation of the Institute of Art and Design with international schools focused on dramatic arts.
