about the studio
The study is based on classical sculpture instruction, consisting of forming a good mastery of sculpting, developing a good perception of spatial relations and mastering volume proportions and structures in the created work. Students, through these skills, express their thoughts and opinions in a sculptural artwork. Teaching is based on mastery of craft in the form of a variety of sculpture, stonework, carpentry, carving and other techniques and technologies, and on the ability to creatively apply them in the implementation of various projects, together with new technologies and contemporary materials. The study is focused on working on a particular assignment, and therefore it has rather the characteristics of applied art in the sense of personal involvement, such as the revitalization of cultural and environmental items. Teaching is conducted as studio training ; its essential part, however, takes place in a specific environment: the landscape, the exteriors and interiors of historical and industrial complexes and urban agglomerations.
Graduates will master craft and art-craft procedures, leading to the composition and realization of sculptures or other methods to deal with a given space. They will be able to reflect not only the issue of landscape and spatial art or applied small sculptures, but find employment in a broader context of practice.
The best semester works, semester projects and Bachelor works can be regularly exhibited in two UWB galleries in Pilsen under the FUD management, and also in the exhibition spaces outside the city of Pilsen. Students of both specializations participate in design competitions at home and abroad. Students may complete the study and internships abroad; an obvious part of the study is the involvement of students, under the expert guidance of teachers, in many art projects and art events; students can attend various workshops and plein air courses at the UWB training center at Nečtiny Castle or abroad.
Graduates of these two specializations can enter directly into practice as employees of an institution or as independent artists in their field. Or they can complete a follow-up Master's Degree Study Program with educational focus and then teach at schools of all grades and at extra-curricular facilities of various types.
The most talented graduates can meet the conditions for admission and continue their studies in the FUD Master's Degree Study Program Design, specialization Sculpture, or in another study program of their choice.
Bachelor’s Degree Study Program graduates also can, after completion of admission conditions, continue studying at any UWB faculty or another university in the Czech Republic or abroad.
