about the specialization
The study is focused on working with paper and related materials, with emphasis on spatial designs. As a natural continuation of the fields Book Illustration and Book Editing, this specialisation offers a focus on artistic bookbinding, nonstandard adaptation of printed matter, and making cutouts and folded puzzles. Interdisciplinary overlaps towards graphic design occur mainly in packaging and packaging design. A special topic is the art of bookmaking as a form of movement along the border between a book and an artistic object. Students are gradually initiated, theoretically and practically, into bookbinding, graphic design and packaging design. In the field of bookbinding, students get familiar with the history and terminology of the field, and gain practical experience with the basic technologies of book production. Within the category of packaging, graphic design and packaging design, the principles of visual communication, the fundamentals of font and script, production technologies of cardboard folding books and paper packaging, and options for their graphic layout are taught. Other realizations of spatial designs of paper and related materials are large-size objects and installations for exhibitions and gallery expositions, advertising presentations, and also objects of free creation. Part of the teaching is focused on working with graphic and spatial processors. Students subsequently actively apply the required knowledge and skills (in addition to hand-craft work with the material) as a natural part of their presentation.
