about the studio
Graphic design is a category of applied art, focusing on a wide range of forms of graphic design inputs into public space. It participates in the formation and cultivation of graphic works in the areas of industry, culture, environment and advertising. For this purpose, it uses both traditional print media and new, particularly electronic, resources. Students will not only obtain required technical and artistic skills, but will also be able to deal with individual study challenges using their personal opinions and their ability to offer an innovative approach and unusual solutions.
The study lies in recognizing the importance and nature of information, in the choice of appropriate means of expression (color, symbol, expression, function, font, hierarchy, image, shape, composition). Attention is paid to the meaning and the information level of a graphic design assignment and related professional responsibilities, as well as the interpretation of an artwork by means of an artistic shortcut. Teaching is conducted through the implementation of surface and spatial compositional exercises, based on the dialogue between area and volume, and mastering artistic area stylization including the integration of knowledge into effective graphic composition with a limited range of colors. Emphasis is placed on coordinated visual style. Graphic design includes a wide range of individual products: signs, visual identity, cultural, social and informational posters, books, newspapers, art books, catalogues, magazines, administrative and economic forms, graphics in architecture, packaging design, etc.
